Palestra to Chelsea, it's done: medical underway and a deal until 2032
It's confirmed: Marco Palestra is a new Chelsea player. The 2005-born wing-back is in London for his medical and will sign a long-term contract until 2032. A deal worth around EUR 55m with Atalanta; Inter, long in pole, are left empty-handed.
This time it's for real. Chelsea have closed the Palestra deal with Atalanta on the basis of around EUR 55m, plus bonuses and a sell-on percentage in Atalanta's favour: one of the most lucrative sales in the Bergamo club's history. The player is expected for his medical in London before signing.
Marco Palestra gets a long-term contract, until 2032. The decisive factor was a direct chat with Xabi Alonso: the full-back will effectively be the first signing of the Spanish manager's era on the Chelsea bench.
It's a blow for Inter, who for weeks had made Palestra their number-one target for the right flank, going as far as raising their bid to EUR 50m. But Chelsea's financial muscle and Premier League pressure flipped a duel that looked headed for Milan. In the end, the decision was the player's.
Palestra himself sealed it, greeting his new fans: 'so happy for this new chapter'. The lake waves off a gem, the Premier League welcomes another.
