Coppa Italia: Genoa and Fiorentina into the last 16

Genoa beat Südtirol 1-0 and Fiorentina swept Pisa aside 3-0: the Coppa Italia round of 32 has produced its first two qualifiers. In Spain the midweek LaLiga round opened with wins for Rayo Vallecano and Valencia, while Bologna prepare to change coach.

The Coppa Italia opened the evening. At Marassi, Genoa knocked out Südtirol 1-0 thanks to Vásquez, after a goalless first half: the match reports from Calciomercato.com and Corriere dello Sport agree it was a hard-earned win, and De Rossi's side will face Inter in the last 16. "The attitude was right, it will be nice to take on Inter", the coach said according to Corriere dello Sport.

At the Franchi, Fiorentina brushed Pisa aside 3-0. Pellegrino opened the scoring, Gnonto doubled the lead and the third came late on, again according to Calciomercato.com's minute-by-minute coverage. The Tuscan derby earns Vanoli a last-16 tie against Napoli, Corriere dello Sport reports.

In Spain the midweek sixth round of LaLiga began with three fixtures. Rayo Vallecano beat Espanyol 2-1 at Vallecas and Alavés lost 0-1 at home to Valencia. The third game, Elche against Real Madrid, had not been marked as finished at the last update of our data (23.21 CEST): the scoreline stood at 2-2, and we will report the final result once it is confirmed.

In the table Barcelona stay top with 15 points from five games, ahead of Real Madrid on 13 and Betis on 12, the latter lifted by Monday's 2-1 win at Villarreal. The win at Vallecas takes Rayo to 7 points, Valencia climb to 4 and Elche are still without a victory, down among the bottom sides on 3. In Serie A, idle until the weekend, Roma and Inter lead on 12 points: Roma are first on goal difference (+11 to +7), with Como and Lazio on 10.

Off the pitch the day belonged to Bologna: ANSA reported that the club was reflecting on Domenico Tedesco after a winless start, Corriere dello Sport said the sacking was close and in the evening Calciomercato.com announced an agreement with Raffaele Palladino as the new coach. At Inter, the disciplinary judge banned Kolarov for two matches, ruling him out of Roma-Inter, while Çalhanoğlu picked up a strain in his right adductor and will miss the same fixture: both stories come from Corriere dello Sport.

The injury list grew as well: a muscle tear for Torino's Adams, who misses the trip to Bologna, and a hamstring strain for Venezia's Busio, both reported by ANSA, while Sassuolo lose Idzes to a tear according to Fantacalcio. UEFA confirmed the venues for its next finals: the Champions League in Munich in 2028 and Barcelona in 2029, with the 2028 Conference League final in Turin.

Wednesday completes LaLiga's sixth round: Deportivo-Sevilla and Atlético Madrid-Osasuna at 19.00 CEST, Levante-Athletic Bilbao and Barcelona-Racing Santander at 21.30, with Betis playing on Thursday. The Champions League does not return until 13 and 14 October, after September's opening round. Serie A resumes on Friday 18 with Monza-Sassuolo at 20.45, and Saturday at 18.00 brings Roma-Inter, the meeting of the two teams at the top.
