Tielemans to Manchester United: here we go, clause triggered

Manchester United have wrapped up a deal for Youri Tielemans: according to Calciomercato.com it is «here we go», with the Red Devils having triggered the release clause that ties the Belgian midfielder to Aston Villa. After the Ederson trail faded and a look at Manu Koné, United went for the Belgian, valued at around 41 million according to Calciomercato.

The breakthrough came on Monday. Calciomercato.com announced the «Youri Tielemans - Manchester United here we go», explaining that the English club had triggered the release clause the midfielder held with Aston Villa. On the Villa side, transfer boards now list the Belgian as leaving for Manchester.

The move is a fallback. As reported by Sky Sport in recent days, Manchester United had identified Atalanta's Ederson as their midfield reinforcement, but that deal collapsed: hence the need to switch to another profile.

Before landing on Tielemans, the Red Devils had considered Roma's Manu Koné: LaRoma24 wrote of a United ready to «pounce» on the Frenchman, with a «big offer» in the works. In the end, the choice fell on the Belgian: LaRoma24 and Calciomercato report that United «did not pick Koné» and have «finalised the signing of Tielemans».

On the fee, Calciomercato spoke of a «41 million euro coup», while Corriere dello Sport stressed how the swoop for Tielemans changes the scenario «for Koné and Roma». Fantacalcio confirmed the line too: «no Ederson, Tielemans arrives from Aston Villa».

The formal steps remain to be completed: the contract signing, the medical and the clubs' official announcement, which has not yet arrived. In the background, it remains to be seen what Roma will now do with Koné, courted and then set aside by United within a few hours.
