Gila to Milan done: €30m to Lazio, 50% owed to Real

Milan have closed the deal for Mario Gila: an agreement has been reached with Lazio worth around €30 million, with 50% of any future resale owed to Real Madrid. According to Calciomercato.com it is «here we go», with a verbal agreement on the contract and a medical scheduled shortly, while Lazio are left to rebuild their defence.

The breakthrough came on 7 July. Calciomercato.com announced «MARIO GILA - MILAN HERE WE GO!», reporting an «agreement found with Lazio for around 30 million euros» and a «verbal agreement» on the Spanish defender's contract. La Gazzetta dello Sport ran the headline «Gila to Milan: it's done! Agreement reached with Lazio, medical coming soon for the Spaniard».

On the figures, Sky Sport confirms the agreement between the clubs («Milan, done for Gila: the details of the deal with Lazio»), while Eurosport adds the most delicate part of the operation: of the roughly 30 million paid to Lazio, «50% will go to Real Madrid», who had retained a sell-on percentage on the player.

Milan won a crowded race. In the preceding days the Rossoneri were reported to be «working out the details» for Gila after having «got past Atalanta», while Napoli — long pressing for the defender — ended up, as the press wrote, among the sides «always beaten», with «Gila and Khalaili becoming other clubs' business».

It was not a straightforward negotiation. As late as 6 July reports spoke of a Lazio that «will not release Gila» after rejecting Milan's first offer, in line with the club's balanced-market stance. The green light only came once the parties settled on the valuation.

The defender had long been a Napoli target: in June Sky Sport reported a broad agreement with Gila «on a 5-year contract», while ANSA described a possible swap involving Lorenzo Lucca to lower Lazio's demands. That path did not materialise and in the end it was Milan who prevailed.

Now the medical and the signature remain to make the move to Milan official. On the other side, Lazio find their defence «wiped out» and have already begun the search for a replacement: Sky Sport reports an offer for Asp Jensen as a possible heir to the Spaniard.
